The txalaparta: the sound of the Basque Country that connects us to our roots

txalaparta mallorca

At Grupo La Vasca, we have always wanted our dining experiences to go beyond the plate, transporting our guests to the heart of the Basque Country. And nothing represents that connection to our roots better than the txalaparta, a traditional Basque instrument that reflects our culture and tradition.

What is the txalaparta?

The txalaparta is a percussion instrument originating from the Basque Country, played by two people. It consists of long wooden boards that musicians, known as txalapartaris, strike with wooden mallets in an alternating rhythm. The result is a vibrant and rhythmic sound that echoes the heartbeat of the Basque land and was traditionally used to accompany celebrations and communal work.

The txalaparta at our anniversary

At the recent anniversary of Grupo La Vasca, which we celebrated at our restaurant El Vasco, we were fortunate to experience the unique sound of the txalaparta. This instrument brought the evening to life, accompanying our friends, partners, and customers in an atmosphere that combined the best of Basque music and cuisine.

Basque gastronomy and tradition at Grupo La Vasca

Just as the txalaparta symbolizes the rhythm of our land, at our restaurants La Vasca and El Vasco, we want each dish to transport our guests to the essence of the Basque Country. From our pintxos and hearty dishes to the finest meats, every bite is infused with the tradition and authenticity we aim to convey. Events like our anniversary reinforce our Basque identity, not only through food but also through cultural elements like the txalaparta.

Come to La Vasca or El Vasco and let yourself be carried away by an experience that combines the best gastronomy with the soul of the Basque Country.
